After the Pride found out about Nyara's cubs' father's identity, their queen had been absolutely humilieted. The royal family had already had their fair share of embarrasment, when the Guard and the brother of the queen had left his unfaithful mate, and everything that was going on with the two young princes. But this really was the cherry on top. And if it wasn't already enough, Nyara's two cubs looked more like Kovu then even Kiara's kids put together. The queen felt ashamed of her husbands betrayal, but what could she do? She still loved her mate and he had always been a splendid king. Sure he was a bit unsure as a father, but the love he had for his cubs and Kiara was undouptable. Kovu would for the rest of his life regret the choise he had made when he had mated with Nyara, and try to make it up to Kiara. But when he first saw his two newborn cubs, he had felt love for the furballs immediatly. For Kiara's sake he named the cubs with horrendius names, Hatia and Dosari. Still, now Nyara was prouncing around proudly, as the Kings Mistress, a highly ranked lioness, as her children were the 4th and 5th in the line to the throne.

If his love for them was undoubtable then I find it extremely hard to believe he would have cheated without some form of blackmail or threat.
